Letters from Battle River – Artists

David Cheoros (Director)

David studied theatre at the Universities of Waterloo and Victoria. This show was his first time adapting work from primary sources, and still one of his favourites. David was the festival director at the Edmonton Fringe for a few years, and has also taken shows across Canada, and to Washington, Indianapolis and Adelaide. He’s also been Producer of LitFest: Edmonton’s Nonfiction Festival, Executive Director of FAVA, Co-Producer of the Comedy Arts Festival, and General Manager of Theatre Network. He is the Executive Director of Metro Cinema.

Karen Simonson (Dramaturge)

Karen is thrilled to be collaborating once again with her husband David for this project, her first foray into the world of theatre. Born and raised in Edmonton, Karen graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in History, and received her Masters of Arts in archival studies from the University of Manitoba. She has worked in a number of archives across Canada and is reference archivist at the Provincial Archives of Alberta.

Laura Raboud (Performer)

> Laura Raboud is very honoured to work with David and Lukas to play this challenging role originally performed by Heather Swain. She has performed previously with MAA & PAA in Never Let the Crew See you Cry (Fringe 2013/Theatre Alberta tour 2015) and Bible Bill: A Gospel Musical (Fringe 2014). Recent acting credits include: Jules in Swallow (En Frente Productions June 2016), The Pussy Cat in Runcible Riddle (Catch the Keys Productions May 2016), Ensemble Member in Subway Circus (Blarney Productions February 2016). Thanks to her mom, husband and kids for their support.

Lukas Zapata (Video designer)
I was born in Medellin City, Colombia on 1991, since the age of 14 I started to work on the local high school tv channel, That’s how my passion for filmmaking started. on 2012 I migrated to Canada, Thanks for the Edmonton Arts Council I met a lot of interesting people that help me connect with the local scene, they awarded me with the cultural artist award on 2013. From there I perform in many different venues around the city, as a visual projectionist.

Geri Dittrich (Costume Designer)

Geri has been so busy doing costumes and props for stage, individual performers, schools, corporations and special events in and around Edmonton that she is too busy to write a decent bio.

Alejandro Moreno (Audio Designer)
Alejandro is thankful for the opportunity to work with David, Lukas and of course, Laura. His favourite credits include: Emilio in the Chilean musical Voy Soñando Voy Caminando, Gustavo in Michele Vance Hehir’s Ruminations series (the other theatre), and stage manager in Alien Creature (the other theatre, Theatre Azimuth). He is also an active member of the Popol Vuh Project and EdMetro Chorus.
