GUT is certainly not the first play to provide a first-hand perspective on weight issues. However, with a male company, it's hoped that we are able to examine gender differences - the differences in health risks, social pressures and historical perspectives on fat men - to take this out of the context of weight as a feminist issue. At a time when 64% of Canadian men are categorized as "overweight" (compared to 54% of women), it's time for us to speak from the other side of this double standard.

GUT began as a ten minute performance piece created at One Yellow Rabbit's Performance Lab in 2008. David would like to thank all of the Lab Participants and Instructors, especially Marcy Lannan and Kris Kelly, for their assistance in the development of the work.
